We’re really excited to announce that we’ve just appointed our joint shop and café staff managers – Teresa Tucker and Felicity Cross.
They’ll be leading our team of volunteers and we’re extremely fortunate to have found two people with such a wide and diverse range of skills, great personalities and genuine enthusiasm for community life.
Many locals will already know Teresa. Her family have farmed in the area for almost 40 years and her three children are former pupils of Parracombe School. Teresa was kitchen manager at the school for 12 years – her Queen of Puddings can beat anything on Masterchef – and she later moved into retail, working at fashion and jewellery outlets in Barnstaple.
Teresa, whose hobbies include cooking and line dancing, told us: ‘It’s a great feeling to be helping launch the community shop. And the café is every bit as important because it’s somewhere our customers can meet to have a natter and catch-up anytime during the day. I can’t wait to get started.’
Felicity moved to North Devon last year after 12 years as head of marketing and admissions at a school in Dubai. She now owns a smallholding just outside Parracombe and reckons she’s become a ‘dab hand at digging ditches’. Her great loves include mountain biking and gardening but, above all, she enjoys meeting people.
‘One thing I missed in Dubai was a sense of community,’ says Felicity, whose daughter works for Save The Children in Yemen.
‘That’s not the case here – we have a wonderful, friendly community and I’m so looking forward to getting more involved and helping the shop and café grow into something very special.’
