Might you lend a hand?
We’re lucky to have so many brilliant volunteers who give up their time to support the Community Trust. But there are plenty of ‘back office’ jobs that still need to be done and so if you’re an existing volunteer open to committing a few more hours a month please don’t be shy in coming forward.
As for community-spirited souls who would like to join our volunteer team, be assured that there’s a place for you. Whether you fancy the odd shop shift, a bit of admin here and there or have professional skills that could really help our effectiveness and efficiency, you’d be extremely welcome. Below are some of the current roles which need filling and if you’d like to know more you could give Nick a ring on 07970 823464 or email chairman@parracombe.org.uk.
You can take on as much or as little as you want, there’s no pressure and you’ll be made to feel part of the team from the off.
Treasurer
Our stalwart, long-serving Treasurer is stepping down in 2025 and this is one job we really can’t do without. If you have some experience of financial management and could spend a few hours a week over-seeing our project accounts we’d really love to have a chat.
Craft/Commission sales – shop
The chance to join a new group of helpers and source your own pop-up offers for the craft dresser. Jo Harrison is happy to continue sorting the till and payments at the end of each period but would very much welcome other creative minds to help with this interesting and fun job. Roles include:
- Sourcing products and liaising with crafters
- Displaying products
- Keeping an accurate record of deliveries in the shop craft folder
Art Club Greetings cards – shop
Another role tailor-made for creatives. It includes:
- Liaising with Parracombe Art Club members and selecting images
- Taking the selection to printers in South Molton and creating an order
- Collecting from printers
Rota Collation – shop
This involves joining the rota team which organises our shop shift cover. Three volunteers are already helping with this but a fourth would make it easier for all. You would generally be an overseer for one month at a time, 2/3 months a year when convenient for you. The role includes:
- A daily/weekly shout out on WhatsApp to cover any gaps in shifts for the following week.
- Adjusting the rota as necessary
Volunteer co-ordinator – Trust-wide
A role that puts you at the heart of our most important asset – our volunteers! You’d co-ordinate:
- Volunteer recruitment – this includes sending out training paperwork and organising inductions.
- Volunteer socials and events.
- Work parties when necessary and liaise with the PCT management committee
IT and website administrator – Trust-wide
Are you tech savvy? Could you help improve, update and possibly migrate our current website. If so, we’d love to hear from you.
Invoice administrator – Trust-wide
A narrowly-defined job which should involve no more than a couple of hours each month. The Community Trust doesn’t generate a lot of invoicing, but this is another thing that needs doing.
Payroll and Pensions Administrator – shop
Sounds daunting but not for someone with previous experience of this role. If we can’t find a volunteer, we’ll need to out-source it.
Utility / Energy Contracts Administrator – Trust-wide
We need someone who can keep an eye on our energy and utility bills (electricity, water and broadband). This is not a time-intensive role but it is important, with energy and water costs set to rise, that we get best value. You would provide regular (but brief) reports to the Finance Team / Management Committee on electricity use at the shop and hall and our Feed In Tariff income at both venues. You’d also negotiate new contracts with suppliers as they come up for renewal.
Grants co-ordinator
A work-from-home role which on involves tapping in to Local Giving and other community grant sources and applying as appropriate
Attendance at Devon Community Shop Network – shop
Attend quarterly meetings, report to Shop Team and complete actions as necessary.
Prescription collections
Volunteers who would like to occasionally help with this.
